Our story

Three generations, one missing carpet

Extor Carpets was founded by Rudolf Mennes, the third generation of his family in carpet weaving, at Creatuft and Tasibel. After years in sales, he saw the same gap again and again: cheap outdoor rugs faded within a season, good ones were priced as a luxury. So he made the carpet that was missing. High quality, built to last, at a fair price. Woven and finished in Belgium, tested for heavy use, and priced so our partners can grow with us.

1. The yarn

Every thread has a past

We made one choice early on, and we never looked back: every carpet in our collection is woven from 100% recycled PET. Not one line, not a special edition. All of it.

That yarn starts its life as plastic bottles. In India, our spinning partner collects, cleans and melts them down, then spins them into a yarn strong enough to face sun, rain and chlorine for years. We have been there. We have walked the floor, seen the controls at every step and the certificates on the wall. Because if we tell you a carpet is made from recycled bottles, we want to know exactly how.

Around 50 bottles go into every square metre. A carpet that started as waste, and ends up as the place where people sit, play and come home to.

2. The weaving

Made where we live

Our carpets are woven in Kuurne, in the heart of Belgium's carpet region, where our family has been weaving for three generations.

We keep our people and our know-how close to home. Short distances between every step, and no containers of finished rugs crossing oceans to reach a European floor. It is not the cheapest way to make a carpet, but it is where we make the difference: in speed, in quality and in flexibility.

3. The finishing

Ready for anywhere

Every carpet is cut and finished by hand, to the centimetre, in the size and shape our partner asks for. Bound with yarn or band, checked one last time, then rolled and packed in our own warehouse.

From there, it leaves for wherever it is needed: a terrace in Spain, a hotel in Dubai, a living room in London. Made in one small corner of Belgium, at home all over the world.
